Understanding the World
Understanding the World involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
To ensure we are developing this area we have an extensive investigation area that is supposed to ignite children's imagination. It includes lots of natural materials such as shells, stones, pinecones and wood, it also includes, tubes, tubs, pots and lots of natural things that children can create what they want with. We have sensory bottles in their that the children created themselves and we also have magnifying glasses, large magnets and colour finders for the children to explore inside and outside with.
Throughout the year we have people from the community visit to share their experiences with the children, last year we had visits from a farmer and his lambs, a policewoman, a nurse, a fireman, and a blind lady and her guide dog, this helps children understand the community they live in.
We also have a brand new touch screen computer with lots of age appropriate games for nursery children to play on.
